The 2018 Spring meeting of the MBC was held Saturday, April 7th at the Broad Meadow Brook Conservation Center and Wildlife Sanctuary in Worcester.
We began by heading to the food trough to taste all of the wonderful options of the pot-luck supper. The salads, appetizers, entrees and desserts were delicious, as usual! Special thanks to Wendy Howes for her recycling and clean-up efforts!!
We had a brief business meeting before moving on to the evening highlights.
The feature presentation “VISITING HUNGARY: Butterflies, Birds, Beef Borscht, and other Bits and Bobs.” was given by Rick Cech. The temperate climate and rural hills of Hungary are reminiscent of southern New England. Even species groups are similar. But in a twist on the French proverb, in this case the more they are the same, the more we can see how they differ. Rick Cech, a long-time non-resident member of the Massachusetts Butterfly Club, was there with his wife Emily Peyton to discuss their visit to Hungary in July, 2016, accompanied by Steve Moore and Barbara Volkle.
The presentation was followed by an auction of many items donated by several club members. Our "world renowned" (or at least "Massachusetts renowned", or at least "Foxboro renowned") auctioneer was Brian Cassie. He was so good he was able to get one person to buy the item they donated.
Unfortunately, we ran a tad over our scheduled time so we had to postpone the member slide shows until the next meeting. We apologize to those that spent time preparing slides for viewing.
Many thanks to all who volunteered and attended.
